January 11, 2023
Bolt d’Oro, the leading First-Crop sire of 2022, had the highest-priced short yearling by a Second-Crop sire during Tuesday’s session of the Keeneland January sale.
Consigned by Lisa and Tim Turney, hip No. 518 went for $260,000 to Ro Ho Racing. The Turneys, along with Jerry Romans, Jr., bred the bay colt.
The Kentucky-bred colt is out of the stakes-placed mare Lucky Switch and is from the extended family of champions Transpire and Ole Pegasus.
Bolt d’Oro finished 2022 with $2,815,623 in progeny earnings, and also led the First-Crop list with six black type winners, seven graded stakes horses and 15 black type horses. He is standing in 2023 for $35,000 live foal.
