Hoosier Philly trounces foes in $400,000 Golden Rod S. (G2)

Into Mischief’s undefeated 2-year-old filly Hoosier Philly stamped herself as one of the top horses of her division with a dominating performance in Saturday’s $400,000 Golden Rod S. (G2) at Churchill Downs.

Sent away as a huge favorite off a 7 ½-length win in the Oct. 30 Rags to Riches S. over the same track, Hoosier Philly rated kindly in third through the first five furlongs. She ranged up three-wide on the turn and took the lead on her own at the top of the stretch. Hoosier Philly was all alone down the lane and crossed under the wire a five-length winner in a gallop.

Despite winning without any urging, her final time of 1:43.94 was :01.31 faster than Instant Coffee’s victory in the Kentucky Jockey Club (GII) for colts one race later.

“I’ve said multiple times, and I hope it doesn’t come across as arrogant, I’ve never seen any horse like her,” said trainer Tom Amoss. “I’ve been training since 1987 and she’s different than anything I’ve ever had come in my barn. The instructions to Edgar (Morales) were pretty simple, he was on the best horse and ride her with confidence.

“Now, she’ll get a break by design and will bring her back as a 3-year-old,” Amoss added. “She’s a filly but I have entertained the thought of putting her on the Road to the Kentucky Derby.”

Prior to the Golden Rod and Rags to Riches, Hoosier Philly broke her maiden Sept. 25 by 1 ¾ lengths. She is now perfect in three starts with earnings of $432,610 for the Gold Standard Racing Stable LLC.

Hoosier Philly is out of the Tapit mare Tapella. The gray or roan filly was bred in Kentucky by Candy Meadows LLC and sold for $510,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Hoosier Philly is the 57^th lifetime graded winner for Into Mischief. The Spendthrift stallion has already broken his single-season earnings mark he set in 2021. His 202 figure stands at $26,709,827 with over a month to go in 2022.
