Into Mischief ‘Philly’ crushes foes in $200,000 Rags to Riches S.

Hoosier Philly made an ultra-impressive stakes debut Sunday at Churchill Downs, dominating the $200,000 Rags to Riches S. by 7 ½-lengths, a margin that could have been much more.

The 2-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, who broke her maiden over the same surface on Sept. 25, is now 2-for-2 with earnings of $190,140.

Hoosier Philly, who was also making her two-turn debut on Sunday, was ridden by Edgar Morales for trainer Tom Amoss. She tucked in third behind the leaders after the break, holding her spot through a half-mile in :48.38 over the sloppy going. Morales eased her into the three path on the turn, and with absolutely no urging from her rider, she took the lead. She quickly opened up on the field, and despite basically being eased in the last sixteenth, she was widening her margin all the way to the wire.

“She’s unlike any horse I’ve ever had in my career and that goes back to 1987,” said Amoss, who has trained Grade 1-winning fillies Serengeti Empress and Heritage of Gold. “Í’m so happy for the owners, Bill Stone and Ron Radcliff, and their partners. She was pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies and was the first alternate in the race.”

Stone and partners race under the name of Gold Standard Racing Stable LLC. Hoosier Philly was bred in Kentucky by Candy Meadows LLC and sold for $510,000 at the 2021 Keeneland September Yearling sale.

Hoosier Philly is the first foal out of the Tapit mare Tapella, whose dam Princess Arabella was a stakes winner.

Into Mischief’s 2022 progeny earnings stand at $23,360,838, less than $1.7 million behind his record-setting 2021 season. He has six horses pre-entered for this upcoming weekend’s Breeders’ Cup races.
