First Japanese starter a winner for Bolt d’Oro
September 6, 2022
From Dusk gave leading First-Crop sire his third winner of the past week on Sept. 3 when the first-time starter took a 1,200-meter maiden race at Kokura Racecourse in Japan.
The 2-year-old colt was his sire’s first starter in Japan and went gate to wire over a yielding turf course, winning by three-quarters of a length in a very game performance. The final time was 1:10.1.
“He had a nice draw and broke well from the gate,” said winning jockey Kohei Matsuyama. “He was very fresh and fit and had plenty left at the finish.”
From Dusk sold for $900,000 to Hideyuki Mori at this year’s OBS March 2-year-old sale following a bullet work of :9 4/5 seconds.
From Dusk is a half-brother to stakes winner Foolish Humor, and his dam is a half-sister to the late three-time Grade 1 turf star Get Stormy. Foolish Cause was bred to Bolt d’Oro for 2023.
Bolt d’Oro, who now has 13 winners overall, had an excellent week with Instant Coffee breaking his maiden at Saratoga, getting his first graded stakes winner with Boppy O in the With Anticipation S. (G3), and Recognize placing in the $150,000 P. G. Johnson S.
