Big stretch run carries City Park to first stakes victory
August 6, 2022
Temple City’s City Park was the second of two new stakes winners on Saturday for his sire when he powered down the stretch to win the Louisiana Cup Turf Classic S. at Louisiana Downs.
The win came about two hours after Dynadrive won the Lure S. at Saratoga. Temple City now has eight stakes winners and more than a dozen stakes horses worldwide in 2022.
City Park wasn’t assured of the win until the final sixteenth of Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile contest. He was in the back half of the 11-horse field for six furlongs. Taken some five-wide into the stretch, he was in full flight and rolled by the field to win by nearly two lengths in a very good 1:41.23 on the firm turf.
City Park has finished in the top three in 16 of his 31 starts and earned $210,484. He is owned by MAT Investments LLC and bred by Warran Harang.
