Into Mischief’s Wonder Wheel shines in Churchill Debutante S.
July 4, 2022
Wonder Wheel turned in a dazzling July 4 performance at Churchill Downs in her stakes debut, cruising to a 6 ¾-length victory in the $175,000 Debutante S. for 2-year-old fillies.
The daughter of Into Mischief won her debut over this same track on June 3 and is now a perfect 2-for-2 and has earned $175,600 for D. J. Stable LLC.
Wonder Wheel broke sharp and flew through a quarter-mile in :21.52. She was up two lengths after a half-mile in :45.05, then powered away from the field in the stretch to finish the six furlongs on a fast track in 1:10.26.
“She’s a special filly and we’re so thrilled for the Greens (Jon and Leonard Green of D. J. Stable) that they were able to be here this afternoon for this win,” said trainer Mark Casse’s assistant trainer David Carroll. “She was very impressive in her debut and in her preparation for this race she couldn’t have been any better. She’s by Into Mischief so we were confident she’d be able to handle the extra distance.”
Wonder Wheel was bred in Kentucky by Three Chimneys Farm LLC and Clearsky Farms and was purchased for $275,000 from Clearsky Farms at the 2021 Keeneland September Sale. Her dam Wonder Gal earned more than $900,000, won three stakes, and placed in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).
Wonder Wheel was part of a terrific July 4th weekend for Into Mischief that included Life Is Good dominating in the John A. Nerud S. (G2), Make Mischief placing in the Princess Rooney Inv. (G2), and My Prankster running second in the Maxfield S. at Churchill Downs.
