May 3, 2022
Hit It a Bomb’s multiple graded stakes winner Tiz the Bomb drew post 9 on Monday when entries were pulled for the Kentucky Derby (G1) at Churchill Downs.
The 3-year-old comes into Saturday’s Derby off a superlative effort in the April 2 Jeff Ruby Steaks S. (G3), winning the race by 2 ¼-lengths for his second straight stakes win.
The Spendthrift-bred colt, who sold for $330,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearlings sale, won three straight as a 2-year-old, including the Bourbon S. (G2), before wrapping up his juvenile campaign with a second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G). He is Hit It a Bomb’s leading earner with $1,044,401 to date.
Tiz the Bomb races for Magdalena Racing Lessee, the namesake of trainer Ken McPeek’s farm. Brian Hernandez, Jr., who has ridden Tiz the Bomb in all but one of his eight starts, will be aboard Saturday.
Post time for the Derby is 6:57 p.m. ET.
