$600,000 colt leads spectacular opening day at OBS for Bolt d’Oro
March 16, 2022
Bolt d’Oro led all First-Crop sires with a $600,000 during the opening session of the OBS March Sale of 2-year-olds, topping an incredible day for the Spendthrift stallion that saw a total of seven lots sell for an average of $329,286.
The $600,000 colt, hip No. 291, was one of three of Bolt d’Oro’s juveniles to breeze :09 4/5 during the Under Tack show. The bay was consigned by Top Line Sales, agent for breeder Loren Nichols, and was purchased by Kaleem Shah.
“Visually, his breeze was very impressive,” said Shah’s advisor Ben McElroy. “Obviously the time was impressive, but when I went back to see him at the barn, he was [physically] impressive as well.”
The Florida-bred is out of unraced mare Beautissimo, a half-sister to stakes winner and stakes-placed Two Thirty Five.
Bolt d’Oro had a pair of colts bring $400,000 on Tuesday as well. Hip No. 51, consigned by S B M Training and Sales, went to Muir Hut Stables LLC, while hip No. 300, consigned by Davis Breaking and Training, Inc., was purchased by BBA Ireland Ltd.
“After seeing his stock here at the sale, it’s hard not to be impressed with Bolt d’Oro,” said McElroy. “He’s stamping them. They all seem to have good minds on them.”
The sale concludes tomorrow with eight more lots by Bolt d’Oro scheduled to go through the ring.
