Vino Rosso leads freshman sires at Keeneland with $210,000 colt
January 13, 2022
Vino Rosso had the highest-priced short yearling by a freshman sire during Tuesday’s session of the 2022 Keeneland January sale with hip No. 689, a colt sold to Sand Hill Bloodstock for $210,000.
The striking chestnut youngster was consigned by Lane’s End, agent and bred by Managanaro Bloodstock, Iapetus Racing and Jason Taylor Equine.
The colt was one of three six-figure yearlings by Vino Rosso at this point of the sale. He is out of the Giant’s Causeway mare On My Way and is a half-brother to Matt Winn S. (G3) winner King Zachary.
Champion Older Male and Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) winner Vino Rosso has been one of the most popular new stallions on the market, covering 420 over his first two seasons at stud. He is standing this year at Spendthrift Farm for $20,000 S&N.
