Angelus Diamond tallies front-running turf win for Gormley
December 23, 2021
Gormley, a top-five First-Crop sire by winners, got number 22 on Dec. 22 at Tampa Bay Downs when Angelus Diamond carried his speed for a one-mile victory on the turf.
The 2-year-old chestnut led virtually the entire trip after a sharp break from post two. Other than a brief challenge on the final turn from Aeroballistic, Angelus Diamond was up by two lengths the rest of the trip. He crossed the wire officially a 2 ¼-length winner.
Angelus Diamond is owned and trained by Andry Blanco and was bred in Kentucky by Robert Spiegel.
In addition to accounting for 25 winners to date this year, Gormley is third only to Gun Runner and Caravaggio by graded stakes horses, with three. Gormley bred 158 mares in 2021, his second-largest book to date, and will stand the 2022 season for $7,500 S&N.
