Gormley colt wires field in turf debut
December 18, 2021
Celestial Finish took a Dec. 17 turf allowance race at Fair Grounds in front-running style, fending off a late challenge to get his second-consecutive win by three parts of a length (WATCH RACE).
The 2-year-old son of Gormley broke his maiden over the local main track on Nov. 28 and is one of 21 winners accounting for 24 wins for his top-10 First-Crop sire.
Celestial Finish came away running from post three, setting the tone early. He got a stout challenge from Roman Poet at the top of the stretch, but shook clear soon after. Eased up a bit when the outcome was for sure, Celestial Finish won the “about” 5 ½-furlong contest in 1:05.71 on the firm turf.
The winner, who sold for $270,000 at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling sale, is owned by Late Night Stables LLC and was bred in Kentucky by Rosa Colasanti, Dr. Naoya Yoshida and Kara McDermott. Celestial Finish is a half-brother to stakes winner Life Mission, while his dam’s siblings include two-time Grade 1 winner Gabby’s Golden Gal and three-time Grade 2 winner Always a Princess.
