Gormley Girl not to be denied in tight maiden win
November 26, 2021
Gormley Girl’s surge in the final strides earned the 2-year-old Gormley filly a head victory in a Nov. 25 maiden race at Woodbine.
Gormley Girl is the 19th overall winner for her top-10 First Crop sire. The Spendthrift stallion, who will stand for $7,500 S&N in 2022, has three graded stakes horses this year, topped by Saratoga Special S. (G2) winner High Oak.
Gormley Girl was between and behind horses on the backstretch and around the turn. When the field fanned out turning for home, Gormley Girl made her was through an opening, but it wasn’t until the final sixteenth she took the lead and held off several challengers to get the win.
Gormley Girl was bred and is owned by Paul Buttigeg, who is also the chestnut filly’s trainer.
