Ny Traffic rolls in $150,000 Hudson H.
October 30, 2021
Cross Traffic’s multiple graded stakes-placed colt Ny Traffic earned his first stakes win in a big way in the $150,000 Hudson S. on Oct. 30 at Belmont Park, romping to an 8 ¾-length victory in the 6 ½-furlong contest.
Ny Traffic may have found a home sprinting after contesting two turn races against the likes of Authentic, Tiz the Law and Maxfield at the longer distances. Widest of all in the eight-horse Hudson, he was in the four path and a few lengths off of the lead down the backstretch. The gray/roan began to gain ground while still wide on the turn, then easily took the lead from Foolish Ghost at the top of the stretch. He opened up on the field in a flash and was eased up in the final sixteenth to wrap up the distance in 1:17.51 on a sloppy main track.
“When I turned for home, I had the horse but he was looking around a little bit,” winning jockey Irad Ortiz, Jr. said. “So, I hit him a couple times to stay straight and make him go forward and after he did, I wrapped it up.”
Ny Traffic has some very close finishes in four graded stakes, most notable a nose loss to Authentic in last year’s Haskell Inv. (G1). His record now stands at 4-4-2 in 16 starts, with earnings of $754,920 for John Fanelli, Cash Is King LLC, LC Racing, Paul Braverman and Team Hanley.
Ny Traffic was bred in New York by Brian Culnan and comes from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Quilma (CHI).
Cross Traffic is a top-10 sire on both this year’s Fourth-Crop list and the Fourth-Crop Cumulative list. His biggest crop to date will be 2-year-olds of 2022 and he will stand next year at Spendthrift for $7,500 S&N.
