Tiz the Bomb rallies to win $500,000 KY Downs Juvenile Mile
September 7, 2021
Tiz the Bomb backed up his blowout maiden win with a stirring victory over a quality field in Monday’s $500,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Mile over the southern Kentucky turf course.
Bred by Spendthrift Farm in Kentucky, the bay 2-year-old son of Hit It a Bomb was bought for $330,000 by trainer Kenny McPeek, agent, at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase.
Tiz the Bomb, who broke his maiden by 14 lengths in an off-the-turf one-mile race, sat in mid-pack for the first six furlongs in Monday’s contest. After coming into the stretch well off the fence, he made his way to the rail and ran down the leaders to win by three-quarters of a length.
“He’s got a license to be a good one,” McPeek told Kentucky Downs media via text. “We’re thrilled with the way he ran. (We) may return to dirt at Keeneland in the (Oct. 9) Breeders’ Futurity (G1).”
Tiz the Bomb, who is owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds, is now 2-0-0 in three starts and has earned $326,291.
Hit It a Bomb now has five stakes winners and eight stakes horses for the 2021 campaign.
