Flashy Malibu Moon colt hammers for $700K

Perennial leading sire Malibu Moon’s bullet-working colt hip No. 164 brought a top bid of $700,000 during Monday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-year-olds sale.
The price was the second-highest paid during the session.
Consigned by Eddie Woods, agent, on behalf of Bill Harrigan’s Miacomet Farm, the bay went to bloodstock agents Alex Elliott and Ben McElroy.
“For a big horse on a tight track like this, he was so smooth and he had a great gallop out,” Elliott said of the colt’s 10-second flat workout during the Under Tack show. “He’s a very hard horse to fault. He was an absolute king in the back ring. We are both delighted to get him. Ben and I work together here and in Europe, so it’s good to hook up with him and get a horse that we wanted.”
Hip 164 was bred in Kentucky by Castleton Lyons & Kilboy Estate and is a son of the unraced mare Seeking Atlantis. He is a half-brother to graded placed Seeking Her Glory and his second dam is multiple graded winner Atlantic Ocean.
Among Malibu Moon’s 10 stakes horses thus far in 2021 is Fair Ground S. (G3) winner Captivating Moon and Grade 1-placed Moon Over Miami.
