Lord Nelson kicks off OBS 2yo sale with $310,000 colt
April 21, 2021
Lord Nelson got off to a terrific start during the opening session of the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds on Tuesday when hip No. 219 brought a top bid of $310,000.
Consigned by de Meric Sales, agent, the dark bay colt went to Columbine Stables.
The Kentucky-bred originally sold for $100,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Select Showcase sale and was bred by Machmer Hall.
The colt’s dam Southern Drifter has produced a pair of winners to date. She is a half-sister to a trio of stakes horses, and the colt’s second dam Excellentadventure is a full sister to Grade 2 winner and sire Evansville Slew.
With the 2-year-old sales season now in full swing, Lord Nelson’s offspring have averaged $121,954, in the top 10 among all First-Crop sires and more than 12 times his 2021 fee of $10,000.
Lord Nelson has eight lots remaining in the sale, which runs daily through April 23.
