Lord Nelson colt hammers for $385,000 Tuesday at OBS

Lord Nelson made a big splash with his first juveniles ever to go to auction Tuesday at the OBS 2-year-olds in Training sale when hip No. 67 brought a winning bid of $385,000.
The colt was purchased by Three Amigos, which includes Hall of Fame conditioner Bob Baffert, who also trained Lord Nelson.
“He looked and moved like his sire. Speed and more speed,” Baffert said of the chestnut colt.
Consigned by GOP Racing Stable Corp., agent, the Florida-bred had breezed a furlong in a swift 10 seconds flat during last week’s Under Tack Show.
The colt was bred by Farm III Enterprices and is out of the stakes-placed Seeking the Gold mare Luna Dora, whose dam Laramie Moon (ARG) was a Grade 2 winner in her native country and multiple Grade 1-placed in the United States.
Lord Nelson’s average sale price of $98,583 during Tuesday’s session was nearly 10 times his stud fee and the highest for any First-Crop sire with at least five lots sold. He has an additional four lots during Wednesday’s closing session.
