Anchored by a $325,000 colt, Lord Nelson had a spectacular closing day of the Sept. 9-10 Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase, with six of his offerings bringing at least $100,000.
Four Star Sales Agent for Spendthrift Farm consigned the sire’s session topper. Hip No. 624 went to leading buyer John Fort. The chestnut colt’s Grade 2-placed dam Goldrush Girl hails from the family of Grade 1 winners Albertus Maximus, King Charlamagne and Daredevil.
“What we are seeing at this sale is what we thought we had all along, so it is nice to see him getting to this point,@ said Spendthrift General Manager Ned Toffey. “We bred some very nice mares of our own to him and have been very happy with how they have been received, how they sold and who bought them. They are getting into the right hands and we are really happy about it.”
Lord Nelson’s top filly Thursday was hip No. 524, consigned by Eaton Sales for Spendthrift and purchased by Triphammer Farm for $220,000. The filly is out of the stakes-winning mare Catrageous.
With 11 lots sold over the two-day auction, Lord Nelson’s offerings averaged $134,091, over 6.5 times his stud fee. In his first season at stud, he was bred to more than 130 mares.
