Mischievous Dream uncorks big rally in Sorority S.
September 8, 2020
Into Mischief’s incredible hot streak continued on Labor Day when the 2-year-old filly Mischievous Dream overcame severe traffic trouble in the stretch to win the $100,000 Sorority S. on the Monmouth Park turf course.
With three graded stakes winners over the holiday weekend, topped of course by Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Authentic, Into Mischief now has 23 stakes winners this year, matching his total for all of 2019.
Mischievous Dream, a Patricia Generazio homebred, was making her two-turn debut in the one-mile Sorority. Breaking from post three, Joe Bravo guided his mount to the rail soon after the break. At the half-way point, she was ninth of 12, about six lengths from the lead.
Trapped behind a wall of horses in upper stretch, Bravo had to take up and make a very difficult move to the four path for clear running. Mischievous Dream sped to the front in the final sixteenth to win by a half-length in 1:38.98 in the firm turf.
“I had a lot of horse the entire time,” said Bravo. “At first she was hyper but she settled and relaxed. She was in the pocket. I just had to steer her out. I thought I had room in the middle of the lane to go between horses but I had to check big time.
“For a 2-year-old filly to pick herself up after trouble like that is impressive. It happened so fast. A couple of horses ducked in and out and I was able to split them. When a horse is able to pass horses in two or three jumps it’s fun.”
Trained by Christophe Clement, Mischievous Dream won her July 19 debut and was a close fourth in her first stakes start on Aug. 19. She has now won $99,200.
The winner is out of Just Livin a Dream, who is a half-sister to Generazio’s $2.6 million earner and multiple Grade 1 winner Presious Passion.
