Jimmy Creed’s Classic Lady on top in Dayatthespa S. win
July 29, 2020
Classic Lady overcame a slow pace and determined late charge from War Canoe to register her first stakes win in Wednesday’s $85,000 Dayatthespa S. on the Saratoga inner turf course.
Second in the Mount Vernon S. on July 2, Classic Lady is the third stakes winner this year for Jimmy Creed, who has now accounted for a dozen stakes winners and 29 stakes horses, second-most on the Four-Crop Cumulative Sire list.
While Classic Lady took up the second spot early on in the 1 1/16-mile Dayatthespa, she was behind the dawdling pace set by Vortex Road. After six furlongs in 1:15.33. Classic Lady soon wrested the lead from the pacesetter, the outdueled War Canoe to win by a neck.
Classic Lady now has a record of 4-5-3 in 17 starts and has earned $252,290 for co-owners Michael Dubb and Bethelem Stables LLC.
The 5-year old mare was bred by Seth Gregory and Robert Barney and is a half-sister to the stakes-placed Forever Changed.
