Goldencents’ Newstome dominates Woodstock S.

Newstome left no doubt as to the best horse in Saturday’s $100,000 Woodstock S. at Woodbine, rolling to a 5 ½-length victory to give the 3-year-old Goldencents colt his third stakes win.
Newstome is Goldencents’ third stakes winner this year, joining graded winners By My Standards and Wildman Jack. Goldencents is a solid second on this year’s Third-Crop sire list with progeny earnings of $2.6 million.
Away in good order, Newstome sat just a couple lengths off the leaders as he hugged the rail. Midway on the turn, the gray went four-wide and swept to the lead entering the stretch, then poured it on in the final furlong to win going away in 1:09.99 on the synthectic surface.
“I got a great trip,” said jockey Luis Contreras afterwards. “He broke running and I was able to save ground and get in the stalk position. In the middle of the turn, I was just loaded with a lot of horse and turning for home, he just ‘go.’”
Newstome me upped his earnings to $233,071 with a mark of 4-0-1 in eight starts. He is owned by Marie Trombetta.
The winner was bred by Equivine Farm. One of three winners out of Newstouse, Newstome is from the same family and Grade 1 winners War Chant, Ivan Denisovich and Hollywood Wildcat.
