Goldencents’ By My Standards dominates New Orleans Classic-G2
March 22, 2020
By My Standards three-length victory in Saturday’s $400,000 New Orleans Classic (G2) at Fair Grounds came almost exactly one year after the son of Goldencents won the $1 million Louisiana Derby (G2) in what was his first graded stakes win.
By My Standards’ win solidified his sire’s hold in the second spot on the Second-Crop Sire list, with nearly $1.6 million in progeny earnings. Goldencents was also represented yesterday by Jax Man, who was a good second in the Crescent City Derby, also at Fair Grounds.
By My Standards, in post eight of nine, shot to the front and was guided to the rail by Gabriel Saez, but then ceded the lead to Silver Dust entering the first turn. By My Standards tracked the leader through six furlongs in a tepid 1:14.36, then forged past in upper stretch and pulled away in the final furlong to get the 1 1/8-miles in 1:50.27 on a fast main track.
“This horse has really developed over time,” trainer Bret Calhoun said. “He’s going to be one of the top older horses in the country this year. He’s trained like it. This was a solid group of horses and he proved today what we have been thinking.”
By My Standards upped his record to 4-2-1 in eight starts and his earnings to $921,910 for owner Allied Racing Stable LLC.
The winner sold for $150,000 at the OBS Spring 2-year-old sale and was bred by Don Ladd.
