Dominus’ Parsimony takes $175,000 Curlin S. at Meydan
February 28, 2020
Parsimony’s 2 ¾-length victory in Thursday evening’s $175,000 Curlin S. has the 4-year-old son of Dominus on course for a possible start in next month’s Dubai World Cup (G1), which runs March 28 at the Meydan oval.
Parsmony, who was a $400,000 OBS March 2-year-old in 2018, ran second in both the Los Alamitos Derby (G3) and Cinema S. as a 3-year-old. He shipped to Dubai for the current meet and was a solid fourth in the $135,000 Jebel Ali Port H. on Jan. 23, his last race prior to Thursday’s win.
After breaking very well under William Buick, Parsimony tracked the Korean-bred Today for nearly a mile before taking over the lead, then pulled clear in the final furlong to win the 1 ¼-mile contest convincingly.
“That was very pleasing,” said Leandro Mora, assistant trainer to Doug O’Neill. “It was a perfect ride from William. We said when we arrived that this was the horse we hoped could be a Dubai World Cup night horse. He ran very well first time, but we knew he would improve from the run, so we came here today pretty hopeful.”
Parsimony is owned by Reddam Racing LLC and was bred by Maria Montez Haire.
A Grade 2 winner on both dirt and turf, Dominus’ largest crop to date are 2-year-olds this year. He is standing the 2020 season for $5,000, stands and nurses.
