Covfefe wins 3-year-old Filly, Female Sprinter Eclipse Awards
January 24, 2020
Into Mischief’s brilliantly fast filly Covfefe became a dual champion at Thursday evening’s Eclipse Awards ceremony, taking home top honors in both the 3-year-old Filly and Female Sprinter categories.
Covfefe is the third champion by her sire, following Conquest Enforcer and Miss Mischief, who both earned their honors in Canada.
Covfefe was nearly unstoppable in 2019, wining five of six starts, including the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) and the Test S. (G1). She turned in a record-setting performance in her 8 ½-length win in the Miss Preakness S. (G3), which was her first graded victory. Her lifetime record stands at 6-0-1 in eight starts, with earnings of $1,110,025 for LNJ Foxwoods.
Covfefe sold for $250,000 at the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale. She was bred by Alexander-Groves Thoroughbreds and is out of the Unbridled mare Antics, whose siblings include Grade 1 winners Arch and Acoma. Covfefe’s third dam Althea was the champion 2-year-old Filly of 1983.
