Emilia’s Moon the 17th Grade 1 winner for Malibu Moon
September 3, 2019
Perennial leading sire Malibu Moon added his latest Grade 1 winner to his stellar resume on Sept. 1 when the undefeated 3-year-old filly Emilia’s Moon captured the Clasico Polla de Potrancas (G1) in Peru.
The win comes just a week after Come Dancing became Grade 1 winner number 16 for her sire with a victory in the Ketel One Ballerina S. (G1) at Saratoga.
Breaking from the far outside in the 16-horse field, Emilia’s Moon had only one horse beat through the first six furlongs. She stared weaving between horses at the top of the stretch and with a final surge came home a three-quarter length winner.
Emilia’s Moon, who foaled in July, 2016, broke her maiden in her debut, also in Peru, on Aug. 10 before winning the 1,600 meter (about one mile) Potrancas.
Emilia’s Moon was bred by Teneri Farms and Bernardo Alvarez Calderon in Kentucky. She is a daughter of Thundering Emilia, who was a multiple stakes winner and Grade 1-placed in Peru. Emilia’s Moon is a half-sister to graded stakes-placed Mighty Scarlett.
