Palace filly goes gate-to-wire in Laurel Park turf maiden
August 2, 2019
First-Crop sire Palace got his second winner on Aug. 2 when Shanna’s Gray led nearly all the way in a 5 ½-furlong maiden turf race for 2-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.
Breaking very alertly, Shanna’s Gray made the lead in a matter of strides and dictated the pace the rest of the way, holding off a stubborn Princess Carrigan to win by a length and a half.
The winner was bred by JRita Young Thoroughbreds and is the first foal out of the two-time stakes winner Vivian Da Bling.
Besides his winners, Palace is also responsible for the stakes-placed filly Tensas Weezy. A multiple Grade 1 winner at Saratoga, Palace is participating in Spendthrift Farm’s Safe Bet Program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
