Wicked Strong has pair of six-figure 2YOs at Keeneland sale
April 10, 2019
Two days after Wicked Strong’s first starter won her Keeneland debut, the Spendthrift stallion’s two lots offered at the track’s 2-year-olds in Training Sale brought winning bids of at least $100,000.
James McIngvale was the winning bidder, at $110,000, for hip No. 154, consigned by L. G., agent. The colt is out of the Birdstone mare The Right Bird, who is a half-sister to Ashland S. (G1) winner Karlovy Vary and Grade 2-placed Rocket Legs. His third dam Packet is a sister to the dam of champion 2-year-old colt War Pass.
A few minutes earlier in the session CJ Thoroughbreds went to $100,000 to secure hip No. 145, consigned by Kirkwood Stables, Agent. The filly, already named Wicked Spirit, is the first foal out of Spirit of Ecstasy, whose siblings include multiple graded stakes winners California Flag and Cambiocorsa.
Wicked Strong is participating in Spendthrift Farm’s innovative Safe Bet program, which assures breeders that a stallion’s first crop of two-year-olds will have at least one Graded/Group stakes winner in 2019, or the breeder will be completely relieved of the stud fee for his or her impending foal in 2020.
