The win also marked the first stakes start for the 3-year-old Malibu Moon filly, owned and bred by Godolphin. She has now won her last three consecutive starts and upped her bankroll to $90,680.
The gray filly stalked the pace along the rail until moving off the fence to roll past Taylor’s Spirit with a quarter-mile to run. The official winning margin was 2 3/4-lengths in the 7 1/2-furlong, two-turn affair.
Sunset Wish is out of Burgundy Ice, who is a half-sister to the 3-year-old champion colt and classic winner Bernardini.
Malibu Moon wrapped up a stellar 2018 with five graded stakes winners, including Grade 1 horses Ransom the Moon and Magnum. His progeny earnings topped the $10 million mark for the second consecutive year, while his lifetime earnings topped the $110 million milestone.
