$675,000 Malibu Moon colt tops Barretts 2YO sale
March 30, 2017
A $675,000 colt by perennial top-10 sire Malibu Moon topped Wednesday’s Barretts March Select 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, ultimately the only horse in the one-day auction to top the half-million dollar mark.
Cataloged as hip No. 109, the dark bay juvenile was consigned by Starting Point Thoroughbreds and sold to West Point Thoroughbreds. The colt had worked a quarter-mile in 21 seconds flat during the under tack show.
Bred in Kentucky by William Peeples, the colt is out of multiple stakes winner Indian Breeze.
“He was a very nice horse and he’s been very nice all winter,” Starting Point’s Stuart Morris said. “He performed on the racetrack and he has been very well-received in the barn. The market responded to him and he brought all that we wanted and more.”
“We bought a weanling one time for $750,000 that was from the first crop of Ghostzapper, but this is probably the most expensive 2-year-old we’ve bought,” West Point’s Terry Finley added. “I thought he had a beautiful stride.”
