First foal is a filly for Medal Count

January 13, 2017

Spendthrift Farm’s Medal Count, the Classic-placed, Graded stakes-winning son of Dynaformer, sired his first reported foal on Tuesday, Jan. 10 when a filly was born at Mallory Farm in Lexington, KY.

Bred by Norm Kenney’s LIL Equine, LLC, the bay filly is out of the young Tale of the Cat mare Giant Cat Tale.

“This foal has all the right parts you like to see in a first-year sire: nice hip, head, and neck,” said Scott Mallory of Mallory Farm. “It’s a good one to start the year off with.”

Medal Count won Keeneland’s Transylvania S. (G3) before turning in a strong runner-up performance in the Blue Grass S. (G1) at three. He went on to become Classic-placed in the third jewel of the Triple Crown – the Belmont S. (G1) – when finishing a close third behind Tonalist. He retired to Spendthrift as Dynaformer’s last Classic-placed son to enter stud.

Out of the graded stakes-placed Unbridled’s Song mare Brisquette, Medal Count is a half-brother to Garden District, a graded stakes-winning 2-year-old filly. He’s set to stand his second season at Spendthrift in 2017 for a fee of $3,500 S&N, or $5,000 through Spendthrift’s “Breed Secure” program.
