Day 1 at Saratoga Yearling sale: $650K Malibu Moon colt
August 7, 2017
Malibu Moon had one of the top-five priced colts during the first night of the Aug. 7-8 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearlings sale when Woodford Racing topped the bidding at $650,000 for hip No. 49.
The dark bay colt, consigned by Lane’s End for Brandywine Farm, is a half-brother to this year’s Robert Lewis S. (G3) winner and leading 3-year-old Royal Mo, as well as the stakes winner Tara from the Cape. Their dam, Royal Irish Lass, is a sister to two stakes winners and is out of the millionaire Irish Linnet.
Monday’s sales figure was the second-highest paid for a Malibu Moon 2-year-old this year, just behind a $675,000 sales-topping colt a the Barretts March Sale.
