Spectator catches the eye in Santa Anita debut
June 23, 2017
Leading First-Crop sire Jimmy Creed chalked up his third winner from just six runners on Friday at Santa Anita Park when Spectator rolled to a 5 1/4-length score in a five-furlong maiden special weight contest for 2-year-old fillies.
Spectator was parked wide coming out of post nine, but held her ground in fourth around the turn, then exploded in the stretch to draw off very impressively while stopping the timer in :58.46 on the fast main track (VIDEO).
The winner is trained by Phil D’Amato for breeders Rick and Sharon Waller. Spectator dam, the unraced Diva’s Tribute, is out of Swiss Diva, a stakes winner of nearly a quarter-million dollars.
Jimmy Creed is one of only four freshman sires with three winners to date, including track record-setter and subsequently stakes-placed colt Admiral Jimmy.
