Strong returns for Palace at F-T July Yearling sale
July 10, 2018
Tuesday’s Fasig-Tipton July Sale featured the first yearlings of the summer auction season by Spendthrift Farm’s Grade 1-winning sire Palace. At the end of the one-day sale, all three lots sold in the ring for more than $100,000, with an average of $135,000, or more than 22 times his bred-on fee.
The top price of the day was hip No. 46, consigned by Paramount Sales, agent, and purchased by Hartley/de Renzo Thoroughbreds for $160,000. Already named Palace Two Step, the filly is out of Seattle Two Step, who is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Miss Grindstone.
Later in the day, Palace’s hip No. 216, consigned by Vinery Sales, agent for Spendthrift Farm, sold for $140,000 to Quarter Pole Enterprises. The gray colt’s dam is a half-sister to stakes winner and multiple graded-placed In The Slips and from the same family as Australian champion Delta Blues.
Palace, who entered stud in 2016, was bred to 227 mares over his first two seasons. He retired to Spendthrift with earnings of $1,586.550 and seven stakes victories.
