Jaywalk dominates BC Juvenile Fillies (G1)

Cross Traffic’s first Breeders’ Cup starter Jaywalk rolled to a 5 1/2-length victory in Friday’s $2 million Juvenile Fillies (G1), likely securing championship honors for the now two-time Grade 1 winner.

Jaywalk’s victory also propelled Cross Traffic to the top of this year’s First-Crop Sire list. The Spendthrift stallion has four stakes winners, six stakes horses overall, and over $1.9 million in progeny earnings to date.

Jaywalk, trained by John Servis for D. J. Stable and Cash is King LLC, broke swiftly from post seven and took command entering the first turn. The gray filly maintained a measured one-length lead until the top of the homestretch, when Joel Rosario asked her for her run. She quickly pulled away from the field to win in hand in 1:43.62 on a fast track.

“Her cruising speed is wicked, and she just runs them off their feet,” said Servis, who won the 2004 Kentucky Derby (G1) with Smarty Jones. “When she got to the lead going into the first turn, I saw her ears go up and saw she was relaxed. I thought we’d be pretty tough.”

Jaywalk has won four straight since finishing second in her debut, including victories in the Frizette S. (G1) and White Clay Creek S. at Delaware Park. She has now earned $1,384,200 after the big payday.

Bred in Kentucky by Gainesway Thoroughbreds out of the Orientate mare Lady Pewitt, Jaywalk was a $190,000 purchase by Servis from Gainesway’s consignment to the 2017 Keeneland September Yearling sale.
