Can the Man, Graded SW by Into Mischief, retires to Spendthrift
February 5, 2015
Can the Man, the graded stakes-winning son of Into Mischief, has been retired and will stand the 2015 breeding season at B. Wayne Hughes’ Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, KY.
Can the Man will participate in Spendthrift’s Share The Upside Program for a fee of $5,000 S&N, and breeders will earn a lifetime breeding right after producing one live foal.
“It is with the success of Into Mischief in mind that we proudly introduce Can the Man to our breeders in 2015,” said Ned Toffey, general manager at Spendthrift Farm. “He is a colt with Grade 1 ability, a collector’s item pedigree, and sale-topping good looks.
“Can the Man is the ideal horse for our Share The Upside Program, and we believe it’s an outstanding opportunity for breeders to earn a lifetime breeding right after producing just one foal. We did the same deal with Temple City, and now his supporters are getting to breed to a hot young sire for free,” added Toffey.
On the track, Can the Man impressively won his debut at Del Mar, before placing in the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in his second start despite a troubled trip. The precocious 2-year-old colt went on to capture the Speakeasy S. at Santa Anita in 1:09 2/5 to close out his juvenile campaign. In his first start as a 3-year-old, Can the Man scored his biggest win in the form of a wire-to-wire victory in the Affirmed S. (G3) at Santa Anita.
A $320,000 sale-topping 2-year-old purchase at Barretts for trainer Bob Baffert and owner Kaleem Shah, Can the Man hails from the Grade 2-winning Danzig mare Smolensk, a half-sister to Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.
Spendthrift is hosting an Open House this Saturday through Monday, Feb. 7-9 from noon to 3pm, featuring Can the Man who will be available for inspection. Lunch will also be served.
